Mapping..

The group mapping project i am choosing to write about is Shelby, Tim, Jun, And Chandra's.  Thought fairly simple in the materials, They showed us something that not only catches the eye, But both amuses the mind, And makes us think.  Colored lights clearly catch our attention and "amuses" our mind.  We are biologically programed to be drawn to the light, It's apart of survival, So you can't not look at their project.  The colors they used for the light (Blue And Red) look great and bounced off the the shiny black background, Making them seem even brighter and more appealing.  Other than their display looking fun and cool, They mapped something i think is a good thing to bring up.  They mapped male vs. female artists.  I think seeing, knowing who many male vs female artist do what kind of art in not just the Walker, But anywhere. It shows us places where woman and men are the strongest, And where we're the weakest, As an artist i hope others who see their project are inspired to dabble in areas of art their sex and them themselves haven't experienced yet, Because the more things we try, The more things we can learn and create, And that's why we're all artist right? to create.

Art connected to class.

`The artist i chose for this blog is Markus Lerner. He does digital works, And installations. The 2nd and 3rd  pictures above are just two of many from his installation, Fairytale.  In this installation he uses these warm colored bubbles and white swirls to show how an object radiates light when they hit a bigger object. He calls the idea "A visualized dream of energy", And that is exactly how it makes me feel.  The warm red and coral speres fill me up with a cozy warm energy, And the light that bounces around them gets me excited as if i can feel this power inside of me, And i can picture all the bubbles floating around and almost going crazy with excitement, And i can see and feel it burst all around me. I love his choice in color, It goes along with the last work i had put up of his (The top picture, Sorry, It won't upload to any where up on top), Reactive Sparks.  I really love Lerner's work, I can feel all the worth it radiates out to me, It's like happiness.

Interpretaions At The Walker

The piece i chose from the Walker is Sixteen Teen Jackies by Andy Warhol. Warhal was infamous for silk screens which is how this pieces was done. It's shows four images of Jackie Kennedy, repeated four times. The 1st picture is when Jackie got off the plane, the day of her husband's death, The next is Lyndon B. Johnson's swearing in, Her at the capitol after the ordeal, And her smiling to the crowd in the limousine during the parade.
To me this shows one of our greatest 1st ladies' pure pain and sadness. These images of her were plastered all over magazines, On TV screens, in the papers, They're something this country will never for get, Exceptionally those who alive at that time. These pictures were something they saw everyday for weeks, completely burned into their minds. It's shows us the raw shock of Jackie's loss, Loosing her husband, Being sprayed this is blood, brains, and skull. The pictures of Jackies he chose really portrays his way with death. Any Worhol also loved the American stars and celebrities, And how mass media showed them, and their lives. i think on top of that, for people who know other facts about these images, it's even more sad and disturbing. In the second picture of Jackie that shows her still completely stunned during Johnson's swearing in, She's still wearing the dress from the parade. For those who watched the ceremony for Johnson on their TV screens when they did a close in on Jackie, they had 2 quickly back of the camera and change it because she still had all the blood and body manner on her dress. It really makes me feel sick and sad to see these pictures of her, And the last one makes is worse to see

MIA Installation

For this installation we were to use pieces found @ the MIA. We had to have at least 3 objects from two diff. floors. The 3 objects i picked for my installation were:

I would put these pieces in simple plain room painted compleatly black (Walls, Floor, Ceiling), With no lighting around it. I would have the picture of Washington free hanging by wire in the center of the room w/ no lights directed on him. I would have one of the weapons (Sword/Knives) free hanging in front of the painting, Right in front of where Washington's sword hangs. I would have the healing doll free hanging as well, In front of the chair Washington if partly standing in front of, As if was sitting in the seat. As i said earlyer in this description, I will not have a light directing on the painting. However, I will place a bright light directly above the sword, And another directly above the healling doll, For extremly high contrast in the other wise dark room.

I want to show these things from africa as being apart of Washington. I've heard alot about presidants from back in the day, Including Washington that had sex or even raped their slaves. The healling doll shown here, Is not just for physical health, But emotional as well. It's something i hope these used woman could be helped by. Rape is normaly to show power over someone vs. for sex/lust. I give Washington this african weapon not to protect himself, But to stand in for the woman he hurt as slaves or otherwise, To make him feel powerful.

From a postmodern point of view..

http://www.markuslerner.com/projects/reactive_sparks/

The piece I chose to write about for this assignment is called Reactive Spark designed by Markus Lerner. It's 5 panels that change as they light up. What I like about them is that they are mostly red with this dip of cream at the bottom. The pictures taken of them at night are stunning w/ the sky at a medium blue at the tops, And the dark green trees cutting through the center. The cars driving through the picture are done in real time, Which makes them leave the streak of their lights across the image. They style of this pice is installation photography, One of the main trends in postmodern art. In the photo is the 3D installation of the panels can cars, Which is interactive with the viewer. On Lerner's page where he talks about this piece, He concentrates on the car lights creating energy, And really focuses on them. I found that very interesting because i feel more energized by the lit up panels vs the car lights. Over all i really like this photo installation.
